How to spot a Cayman job or work permit scam
A Cayman job or work permit offer is a red flag if anyone asks you for money to secure or guarantee a work permit, claims special connections that bypass WORC, or asks for payment or personal details through unverified channels (WORC and the Ministry of Caymanian Employment and Immigration). WORC says every Cayman vacancy must be posted on the WORC Jobs Portal, so check that the job is there. Report concerns to worccomplaints@gov.ky or 945-9672. Cayman Job Finder is independent and free, never takes applications or payments, and shows the WORC job ID on each of the 1,345 WORC adverts it lists.

Warning signs (WORC and the Ministry)
On 13 October 2026 WORC and the Ministry of Caymanian Employment and Immigration (MCEI) reminded the public to be cautious of anyone offering jobs, work permits or immigration approvals in exchange for payment, and listed these warning signs (WORC on LinkedIn):
- Individuals requesting money to secure or guarantee a work permit.
- Fake job advertisements or recruitment agencies promising employment in the Cayman Islands.
- Claims of special connections or the ability to bypass official immigration procedures.
- Requests for personal information or payments through unverified channels.
- Misleading information about immigration laws, fees and application requirements.
In October 2025 the Government also warned about people who are not authorised immigration service providers making false promises "in exchange for payment" (MCEI and MDAHA, 21 October 2025).
What the police have seen
The RCIPS Financial Crime Unit has warned about social media adverts for nursing and hospitality jobs in Cayman that promised help with plane fare and permit fees; the hotels named either didn't exist or knew nothing about the "recruitment", and job seekers were later asked to send money "under the guise of processing a work permit" (RCIPS, 8 January 2018).
How to check an advert
- Find it on the WORC Jobs Portal. WORC says every Cayman vacancy must be posted on the WORC Jobs Portal, and advises avoiding adverts outside the WORC system such as unofficial job boards, social media posts or third-party recruiters promising employment (WORC, 18 July 2025).
- Match the details. Every WORC job on Cayman Job Finder shows its WORC job ID, employer and closing date, and links to the official advert. Search the ID on the portal.
- Check the official fees. Work permit fees are set in law and paid to WORC: see work permit fees.
- Never send money or ID documents to someone you can't verify.
